You can not only shoot photographs of an impressive quality with an DSLR (digital single-lens reflex) camera, the camera is also suitable for high quality video recording and is used extensively by professional film-makers.

The big advantage of this type of camera lies in the mirror technology that enables the same image, angle of field, and perspective from the viewfinder and image sensor without parallax shift. Digital single-lens reflex cameras that create high quality videos are often known as Video DSLR or VDSLR cameras. Modern cameras support high-resolution filming and shoot Full HD or Ultra HD 4K resolutions. Recordings can be directly monitored and examined while filming thanks to the integrated display with live preview technology. DSLR cameras are used for commercials and short films, for example.

Image stabilisation for blur-free recordings

If the DSLR camera is held in the hand while filming and is not mounted on a tripod or another fixture, an optical image stabiliser such as is integrated in the Sony Alpha 7S II DSLR camera for example, ensures blur-free images. The Sony Alpha 7S II has a 5-axis image stabilisation system that allows breathtaking image quality even at slow shutter speeds and filming under difficult light conditions.

The 7S II is equipped with numerous movie features for the professional film-maker. These include the fact that the camera is able to readout every single pixel of the full format sensor when shooting 4K videos without pixel binning. Thanks to its large dynamic range, the camera can cope well even in the full glare of spotlights and dark shadows. Film-makers and photographers are therefore able to create completely new creative scenarios.
