The KM 184 is the successor to the popular KM 84 by Neumann. Although the KM 184 is equipped with the same capsule as the KM 84, both microphones differ slightly in 0° frequency response. In the KM 184, the slight increase in the 9 kHz range, which was introduced with great success in the KM 140, was taken over, making the sound character fresher and more lively than with the KM 84, which is completely flat in this area.
