HDCAM SR Tapes

The storage media for professional cinema productions

HDCAM is a professional format for film productions and high-definition television productions. It was developed by Sony and is used almost exclusively in the professional environment. One of the most important areas of application is that of high quality cinema productions. Two versions exist: HDCAM and HDCAM SR. HDCAM SR was introduced in 2003. Recorders, cinema cameras, monitors, viewfinders, diverse devices for transmission technology and other products connected to the HDCAM standard are available on the market. You will find a selection of HDCAM SR tapes of differing recording lengths from Sony in the BPM Broadcast & Professional Media GmbH shop.

Special features of the HDCAM standard

The HDCAM standard and the tapes used for recording images have a number of special features. In general, the maximum runtime of the tape is dependent on the frame rate of the film material. In this way, the recording length of 24p films in comparison to 30p films is higher. The half-inch format is typical for HDCAM from Sony. The tapes are available in two different sizes. They can be ordered in small and large formats. Smaller S tapes are very often used in compact camcorders. The tape used for HDCAM SR is able to save video data at a higher density. Bit rates of 440 Megabits per second are possible which allow Full HD recordings with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels without pixel reduction. HDCAM SR uses the MPEG-4 standard for compression. The range of audio channels can be up to twelve.
