The PXW-FX9 is an addition to the popular FS-series and offers numerous improvements compared to the PXW-FS7 II. It features a 6K full-frame Exmor R CMOS sensor (35.7 x 18.8 mm), Dual Base ISO between ISO800 and ISO4000, reproduces natural colours with soft skin tones thanks to cinematic colour technology S-Cinetone™, derived from the experience of the VENICE digital cine camera, and has a high dynamic range of 15+ f-stops for vibrant shots. The autofocus technology Fast Hybrid AF combines the advantages of phase detection AF and contrast AF for fast and reliable focusing. The camera's LCD monitor has also been revised compared to the PXW-FS7 II and now offers a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels instead of 960 x 540 pixels. The PXW-FX9 also features internal Wi-Fi, eliminating the need for an external USB Wi-Fi dongle. The FX9 can record 4K DCI at up to 60 frames per second and Full HD at up to 180 frames per second (after future firmware updates). The XAVC Intra, XAVC Long and MPEG HD422 codecs are available for this purpose. For example, the PXW-FX9 can record UHD (3840 x 2160 pixels) as XAVC Intra in 4:2:2 10-bit at a maximum bitrate of 600 Mbps on up to two XQD cards. An SD card slot for proxy files is also available. New is also a 12G-SDI output, which can output video resolutions up to UHD (2160p60). A built-in variable electronic ND filter rounds off the diversity of the PXW-FX9 and makes the use of external ND filters unnecessary. The camera is powered by a BP-U type li-ion battery, such as the Sony BP-U70, or by a 19.5 V DC power input. The PXW-FX9 is covered by 2 years of PrimeSupport Pro as a standard included service package. This includes a standard repair with the highest effort and short processing times. The duration of the service package can be extended to 3 years if it is registered on the manufacturer's website within 60 days after purchase.
